Lieto and Holloway take 2005 Subaru Ironman Canada titles

Chris Lieto, of California set a new bike course record enroute to his victory at the 2005 Subaru Ironman Canada.

Lieto was challenged on the run by Simon Lessing, Great Britain but the 33-year-old eventually prevailed to take his second Ironman title.

Second place was won by Stephan Vukovic, Olympic Silver medallist from Germany in his first Ironman competition and third by Canada's own Nigel Gray. Gray, 35 of Toronto ran a strong marathon leg and chased down Lessing to post his personal best Ironman performance.

It was a Canadian sweep on the women's side with Quebec born Karen Holloway taking the 2005 Subaru Ironman title. Holloway, 32 resides in Richmond, VA and this was her first Ironman Championship. First out after the swim, her victory was never in doubt as she led the field throughout the race.

Second and third place positions were also won by Canadians, Paolina Allan 35, Aurora, ON and Christine Fletcher, 32 of Vancouver. Both posted their best ever Ironman finishes today in Penticton, BC.
