(MISSISSAUGA) — Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) is pleased to announce the release of the 2016 Legacy, available at dealerships across the country in August. The Subaru Legacy combines the qualities consumers expect from the Subaru brand - reliability, durability, top-notch safety, engaging drive characteristics and excellent value - all in a mid-size sedan. The current Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) Canadian Car of the Year and Best New Family Car (Under $30,000) continues to be available at the same starting price as the outgoing model year at $23,495. The Legacy has also proudly accepted the 2015 ALG (formerly Automotive Lease Guide) Residual Value Award for the Midsize Car Segment.
The Subaru Legacy is available with two engaging SUBARU BOXER engine options, a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder and 3.6-litre 6-cylinder. Both engine options deliver superior reliability, efficiency and engagement and continue to be mated to the legendary Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD system. The 2.5-litre engine is responsive and fuel efficient, returning 6.5 L/100 km during highway driving and 9.0 L/100 km in city driving conditions in 2.5i models equipped with the optional Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The Subaru Legacy 2.5i continues to be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard equipment and an available Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) option. The PZEV equipment reduces smog-forming emissions to near zero without compromising performance. The confidence-inspiring 3.6-litre engine achieves 8.2 L/100 km on the highway and 11.9 L/100 km in city driving.
For the 2016 model year, all Legacy trim levels come standard with wiper-linked automatic on/off headlights, which activate headlights if the wipers are on for more than 10 seconds, increasing the visibility of the Legacy for the driver as well as to others on the road. The rearview parking guide now has a customizable on/off function for the guidelines, while a keyless entry lock and unlock chirp has been added to provide peace of mind. A refined electric rack and pinion steering creates the optimal road feel to the driver.
2016 Legacy Touring Packages (both 2.5i and 3.6R) add an auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink and a larger clock and outside temperature display, as well as a Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection (SRVD) off indication in the dash. Additionally, the Legacy 3.6R in all trims has improved braking force as the result of a larger brake booster.
Legacy 2.5i Limited and 3.6R Limited packages receive some updates to the 7-inch infotainment system. The infotainment unit is now Siri compatible for Apple iPhone users, and a set of SiriusXM additions are now included, along with a free 3-month basic trial subscription. SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link are available on a subscription basis, while SiriusXM Advanced Audio Services are included. The suite of SiriusXM Advanced Audio Features include functions such as: instant replay, Smart Favourites (five stations that can record up to 30 minutes simultaneously and continuously overwritten), TuneStart (start a song from the beginning), Tune Scan (listen to the first six seconds of songs buffered from Smart Favourites), Featured Favourites (additional presets at the bottom of genre list menus), Channel Graphics (channel and category logos) and SXM Pics (still images coordinated with live audio content. Owners with a 2016 Subaru Legacy model outfitted with the 7-inch infotainment system can also take advantage of the new SUBARU Map Update Program, which offers three free navigational updates over three years.
