Based on Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) approved guidelines. Refer to NRCan’s Fuel Consumption Guide available at https://fcr-ccc.nrcan-rncan.gc.ca/en for more information. Full battery charge and ideal conditions are required. Figures will vary based, amongst others and non-exclusively, on driving and charging habits, speed, accessory use, weather and temperature, battery age, vehicle condition, road condition and other factors. In sub ideal conditions, figures may worsen by more than 50%. Battery capacity decreases with time and use which will further reduce range. See the owner’s manual or NRCan’s Fuel Consumption Guide for details.

Subaru Launches the Subaru Dark Sky Project
5 May, 2016

“85 per cent of the population can't see the stars properly from where they live.”

Subaru Launches the Subaru Dark Sky Project

A star-filled sky is one of nature’s most beautiful sights. But it’s harder than ever to see it. In fact, because of urban light, the night sky has become so bright that an estimated 85% of Canadians can’t see more than a few of the brightest stars. In response, this spring Subaru Canada is launching #SubaruDarkSky, an initiative to encourage Canadians to get out there and see the night sky. Subaru Director of Marketing, Joe Felstein notes that “a night sky filled with stars is one of the most beautiful sights in nature. And yet, there are a lot of people – kids and adults – who have never seen more than a few stars in the sky.”.

The 2016 Subaru Outback and #SubaruDarkSky intends to change that. As the midsize SUV alternative uniquely equipped for life’s authentic adventures, the Outback was designed to help you get more enjoyment out of life – day or night. The Outback comes with the choice of two different SUBARU BOXER engines, both of which deliver potency, efficiency and ultimate satisfaction. The Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD system is complemented by X-Mode for even more rugged capability, while the car-like handling makes the open road equally enticing. There are also advanced safety systems, impressive refinement, incredible utility, generous passenger space and ample amenities to make even the most adventurous drive feel unexpectedly civilized.

#SubaruDarkSky launches in spring with a digital/social initiative as well as a cinema spot that drives to a Subaru Dark Sky site where people can learn how to go about stargazing, Dark Sky Preserves, how to get to them, and get the most out of them. Social content tagged with #SubaruDarkSky will share stargazing tips and information, stargazing photos, and experiences.

“It fits so well with the Subaru brand” says Christina Yu, Creative Director at Red Urban, the creative agency that developed the idea, “not only because Subaru is about getting out and enjoying nature, but also because the Subaru logo just happens to be the Pleiades cluster, which is famous for being one of the brightest and most beautiful constellations in the sky. In fact, in Japan, that cluster is known as Subaru. So we thought this initiative is a perfect fit.”

The Subaru Dark Sky Project has also partnered with the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, who will help provide expertise and up-to-date stargazing information.
