The 2013 Subaru BRZ: Stunning good looks are just the start. |
There are plenty of bland-looking cars out there that offer truly mediocre performance. The 2013 Subaru BRZ is the polar opposite of that–a devastatingly handsome car that is equally fun to drive.
This exciting addition to the family brings innovative Subaru thinking to an entirely new car: a
rear-wheel-drive, 2+2 sports coupe with razor-sharp handling characteristics.
An all-new SUBARU BOXER engine–one that delivers an inspired mix of performance, driveability and efficiency–sets the stage. The flat, horizontal design of this engine type gives each Subaru vehicle a low centre of gravity, which helps reduce body roll and improve stability in the corners.
The BRZ also benefits from other components familiar to the Subaru vehicle line, including the lightweight, super-strong chassis and the fully independent suspension system.
But in the case of the Subaru BRZ, all of these characteristics have been exploited to the nth degree, creating a car with one of the lowest centres of gravity of any sports car. This has served to create a level of handling response that is so profound, it borders on the telepathic.
In fact, the 2013 Subaru BRZ knows what you’re thinking right now. |

Exterior design |
Just one look from any angle–that’s all it takes to fall head-over-heels for the sexy 2013 Subaru BRZ. But little wonder: With its aerodynamically sculpted lines, aggressive nose, short overhangs, shapely fender flares and low, wide stance, who could possibly resist? |
|
Interior design |
With its ultra-low seating position, heavily bolstered sport seats, small steering wheel and high-tech gauge set, the interior of the Subaru BRZ is clearly purpose-built for performance. But it’s also built for comfort, with room for four, premium upholstery or leather and Alcantara seating surfaces, folding rear seatbacks and ample trunk space. (Compromise is so 2011.) |
|
Engineering |
Under the skin, the Subaru BRZ is a true sports car through and through. A responsive SUBARU BOXER engine. A lightweight, highly rigid chassis. A rear-wheel drive layout. The choice of a short-throw 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic with sport mode. And a fully independent suspension system with stabilizer bars front and rear for better stability and enhanced control. |

SUBARU BOXER Engine
The first SUBARU BOXER engine was introduced in 1966. Now, close to 50 years later, all that knowledge has been applied to the next-generation of SUBARU BOXER–the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder that powers the all-new Subaru BRZ.
In the development of this engine, three objectives took centre stage–efficiency, driveability and sheer, unabashed fun. Net result: mission accomplished. This SUBARU BOXER utilizes direct injection and port injection to deliver crisp response, eye-opening efficiency and the high-revving goodness expected from a purebred sports car.
The specific engine output–200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque–tells just part of the tale. Due to a supremely lightweight package, the Subaru BRZ is designed to be your right foot’s best friend forever.
