Based on Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) approved guidelines. Refer to NRCan’s Fuel Consumption Guide available at https://fcr-ccc.nrcan-rncan.gc.ca/en for more information. Full battery charge and ideal conditions are required. Figures will vary based, amongst others and non-exclusively, on driving and charging habits, speed, accessory use, weather and temperature, battery age, vehicle condition, road condition and other factors. In sub ideal conditions, figures may worsen by more than 50%. Battery capacity decreases with time and use which will further reduce range. See the owner’s manual or NRCan’s Fuel Consumption Guide for details.

Safety + technology =
confidence at all four corners

Safety + technology = confidence at all four corners

Over the past 60 years, Subaru has forged a reputation for building vehicles that offer superior levels of protection through the use of technologically advanced active and passive safety systems. The 2025 Subaru Outback takes this effort to the next level: It’s a stronger, more robust design that incorporates the latest thinking around safety, a combination that leads to more confidence than ever before.

Award-winning safety technology

The Subaru Outback is an active adventure vehicle with active safety at its core. This uncommon utility vehicle starts with the longstanding hallmarks of the Subaru brand, including Subaru Symmetrical Full-Time AWD, striking agility and fantastic visibility. Added to that is the powerful thinking that’s found in X-MODE®, the latest-generation EyeSight®◊ Driver Assist Technology, the available Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection system, Emergency Automatic Steering and the DriverFocus™ Distraction Mitigation System. These systems work together to give the driver all the tools needed to avoid dangers ahead while having fun along the way.

EyeSight Disclaimer Brief

EyeSight® is a driver assist system, which may not operate optimally under all driving conditions. The driver is always responsible for safe and attentive driving. System effectiveness depends on many factors such as vehicle maintenance, and weather and road conditions. See Owner's Manual for complete details on system operation and limitations. Please remember to turn off EyeSight when going through a car wash.

Clear Sightlines

The 2025 Subaru Outback builds on one of the strengths of previous models: superior visibility. With its generous ground clearance, steeply raked windshield, unobtrusive A-pillars, front quarter windows, door-mounted side mirrors and elevated seating position, the Outback features great sightlines in all directions.

2025 Subaru Outback EyeSight® Driver-Assist Technology

EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology

This award-winning safety system comes standard on all versions of the Subaru Outback. The latest-generation system incorporates cameras with a wider field of view to better monitor activity on the road ahead, help identify potentially dangerous situations and provide assistance to the driver when needed most. Standard now on all trims is the wide-angle mono camera, which dramatically boosts the effectiveness of the EyeSight® system. On all Outback models, EyeSight® incorporates several advanced active-safety systems: Pre-collision Braking, Pre-collision Brake Assist, Pre-collision Throttle Management, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centring Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Sway Warning, Lane Keep Assist and Lead Vehicle Start Alert. On the Touring trim level and above, Emergency Automatic Steering, which helps you avoid a collision by providing automatic steering and pre-collision braking assistance, is also included.

DriverFocus™ Driver Monitoring System (DMS)

Available on the Limited, Limited XT and Premier XT trim levels, this award-winning system utilizes a camera angled at the driver’s face and facial recognition software to monitor fatigue or lack of attention. When the driver begins to show signs of losing focus, the system sends out a helpful alert, like an automated co-driver. The DriverFocus™ system stores the preferences for up to five drivers, including the position of the seats and side mirrors, climate control settings and gauge readouts on the multi-function display.

Diagram of how High-Beam Assist works.

High Beam Assist

This feature, now standard on all versions of the Subaru Outback, allows the driver to leave the high beam switch on at all times. When the EyeSight® cameras detect an oncoming vehicle or the distance to the vehicle in front is reduced, High Beam Assist automatically dims the headlights. Then, when other vehicles are far enough away, the system brightens the high beams again.

Image of how Reverse Auto Braking works.

Reverse Automatic Braking

Available on the Touring trim level and up, this system detects obstacles behind the vehicle and automatically applies the brakes if a collision seems imminent. The system also incorporates a warning function that triggers different patterns of alarm according to the distance the car is away from an obstacle. To complete the picture, a visual representation of this distance is projected onto the centre console screen.

Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection System (SRVD)

This available system incorporates three distinct functions: Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. Blind Spot Detection identifies vehicles that may be travelling in your blind spot. Lane Change Assist signals when vehicles are approaching quickly from adjacent lanes. The Rear Cross Traffic Alert function chimes in when vehicles are approaching from either side, such as when you’re reversing out of a parking space or driveway. The LED indicators for the SRVD system are located inside of the side mirrors’ housing for improved visibility.

Rearview Camera

The standard rearview camera is mounted close to the centre of the vehicle to capture a crystal-clear, distortion-free image of what’s behind the vehicle. This wide-angle image is then projected onto the centre console screen, along with dynamic guide lines that show the driver how to angle the vehicle perfectly. The camera also features a washer to ensure the lens is always free of dirt and grime.

Close up of the LED Steering Responsive Headlights (SRH).

Steering Responsive Headlights

Standard on all Outback trim levels, these LED headlights automatically angle in the direction of the corner to provide better illumination at night. The headlights also cast a brighter and whiter beam for improved visibility and, in turn, increased safety.

Diagram of how Vehicle Dynamics Control and Active Torque Vectoring works.

VDC with Active Torque Vectoring

The Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system utilizes multiple sensors to assess when the vehicle is approaching the limits of stability and then automatically adjusts the AWD torque distribution, engine output and brakes at each wheel to help the driver maintain control. The system also features Active Torque Vectoring, which automatically applies brakes to the inside front wheel and distributes more torque to the outside front wheel during cornering. These systems, standard on all models, work together to create superior stability, cornering capability and active safety.

Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)

This system incorporates the latest advances to ensure reliable performance under all possible driving conditions and to promote increased driver confidence. These advances include Electronic Brake-force Distribution, which automatically adjusts front/rear brake pressure under different loads, Brake Override that cuts engine power when the brakes are applied and Brake Assist for added stopping power in emergency-braking situations. Also, with the Auto Vehicle Hold (AVH) feature, the Outback remains in place at a full stop, even on inclines.

Rock-solid to the core

Built on the Subaru Global Platform, the Subaru Outback features an ultra-strong envelope to better protect all occupants in the event of a collision. This platform is the starting point for a passive safety strategy that sees the Outback deliver class-leading levels of protection. Added to this inherent strength is a collection of technologically advanced safety systems that work together to minimize the harm from collisions or help avoid them altogether, creating increased confidence along the way.

Advanced Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frame

This advanced frame design links the roof, side pillars and the floor together, and uses cross-members to create one unified, super-strong structure. The design incorporates more high-tensile materials, resulting in an even more robust frame and joint structures, and is able to dissipate and divert more energy away from the passenger compartment.

Airbags

As expected, the Subaru Outback features a full complement of supplemental restraints engineered to better protect all occupants. The collection includes dual-stage front airbags, front seat side-impact airbags, front passenger seat cushion airbag, driver’s knee airbag and side-curtain airbags with rollover sensors for front and rear outboard occupants.

Injury-Reducing Seats and Seatbelt Systems

The front seats utilize ultra-strong frames, energy-absorbing mounting and active headrests to reduce the chance of whiplash. Height-adjustable front seatbelts with pretensioners hold passengers firmly in place, while load limiters ease peak forces to the chest. The Subaru Outback is equipped with standard Rear Seatbelt Reminders. The ISO-FIX/LATCH system, which now features a lower anchor bar for ease of use, helps secure younger passengers riding in compatible child safety seats.

Break-away Engine

In the event of a head-on collision, the SUBARU BOXER® engines and CVTs are designed to absorb impact energy first, then break away from the vehicle and drop below the passenger compartment. This design helps ensure that as little collision energy as possible reaches the occupants, thereby reducing the chance of harm.
