Based on Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) approved guidelines. Refer to NRCan’s Fuel Consumption Guide available at https://fcr-ccc.nrcan-rncan.gc.ca/en for more information. Full battery charge and ideal conditions are required. Figures will vary based, amongst others and non-exclusively, on driving and charging habits, speed, accessory use, weather and temperature, battery age, vehicle condition, road condition and other factors. In sub ideal conditions, figures may worsen by more than 50%. Battery capacity decreases with time and use which will further reduce range. See the owner’s manual or NRCan’s Fuel Consumption Guide for details.

2017 Subaru Outback: Enhanced Safety, Comfort and Convenience Upgrades; Fresh Finishes
30 June, 2016

  • Enhanced preventative safety on select models with reverse automatic braking and high beam assist

  • Upgraded comfort and convenience features

  • New 2.5i and 3.6R Premier with Technology Package trims offer fresh fit and finish

(MISSISSAUGA) - Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) is pleased to announce the release of the 2017 Outback. Available in showrooms early this summer, the Subaru Outback is newly refreshed with added driver assist technology, more interior comfort and convenience, and new 2.5i Premier with Technology Package and 3.6R Premier with Technology Package trim levels. The Subaru Outback continues to be a mid-size SUV alternative that provides car-like handling, yet the versatility of a much larger vehicle and the capabilities to make even the most adventurous drive feel unexpectedly civilized.

Power and Performance

The Subaru Outback is available with two SUBARU BOXER engine options, a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder and a 3.6-litre 6-cylinder. These options allow consumers to select the best fit for their specific needs. The 2.5-litre engine, available with a Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV) option, is responsive and fuel efficient, returning 7.3 L/100 km during highway driving and 9.4 L/100 km in city driving conditions when equipped with the optional Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The Subaru Outback 2.5i continues to be offered with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard equipment. The PZEV equipment reduces smog-forming emissions to near zero without compromising performance. Capable of towing 1,224 kilograms, the 3.6-litre engine provides all the power needed to tackle any weather and road condition while achieving 8.7 L/100 km on the highway and 12.0 L/100 km in city driving. X-Mode is standard on all CVT-equipped models of the 2017 Subaru Outback. X-Mode automatically takes control of the engine, Subaru symmetrical full-time AWD system and braking to help tackle the trickiest of conditions and take the rugged capabilities of the Outback even further.

2017 Subaru Outback: Enhanced Safety, Comfort and Convenience Upgrades; Fresh Finishes

Infotainment, Comfort and Convenience

For the 2017 model year, all Outback 2.5i models have a larger battery with more cold cranking amps, making it easier to start the vehicle on days with low temperatures. The rear child safety seat tethers have improved visibility for greater convenience.

The Touring models (both 2.5i and 3.6R) have received a new 7-inch AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA audio system with high-resolution capacitive touch-screen display, STARLINK smartphone integration (including Aha radio), Siri Eyes Free compatible, dual USB port/iPod control, auxiliary audio input and SMS text messaging capability. These models also include SiriusXM Satellite Radio installed (free 3-month trial subscription included) with SiriusXM Advanced Audio Services, and SiriusXM Travel Link (subscription required). As well, the operating speed of the power rear lift gate has been improved.

The 2.5i Limited and 3.6R Limited models now come standard with a heated steering wheel for comfortable driving even in extremely cold conditions.
All new for 2017 is the addition of the 2.5i Premier with Technology Package and 3.6R Premier with Technology Package trim levels. On the outside, these new trims feature a dark titanium grille, 18-inch wheels with a dark grey high-gloss finish, low-profile silver roof rails, plated door handles and side sills. The exterior colour of Brilliant Brown Pearl is available only on these models. On the inside, the improved finishes continue with woodgrain and high gloss black interior accents, and a Java Brown leather interior.

All-Around Safety

Safety remains a top priority with the 2017 Outback and all Subaru vehicles. The Technology Package available on the 2.5i Touring, 2.5i Limited and 3.6R Limited models, and standard on the 2.5i and 3.6R Premier models, now comes with Reverse Automatic Braking. This new preventative safety technology is designed to assist the driver by detecting large objects and helping to avoid a possible collision when the vehicle is moving in a low speed reverse direction. The system uses four ultrasonic sonar sensors located in the rear bumper cover, and can automatically stop the vehicle if the driver does not respond.

Another new feature standard with the Technology Package is high beam assist. To aid the driver during night driving, this feature will automatically switch the headlights to low beam when the system detects either a vehicle in front or an oncoming vehicle, then returns to high beam when the road ahead clears.
The Technology Package option also includes an auto-dimming rear view mirror with HomeLink and compass, and an alarm that sounds to prevent the driver from forgetting the key fob while leaving the vehicle.

When it comes to recognition by others, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Outback (with optional EyeSight) with its 2016 Top Safety Pick+ award. IIHS also recognized Outback for its Superior Front Crash Prevention capabilities (EyeSight-equipped models). The Subaru Outback also earned an ALG (formerly Automotive Lease Guide) Residual Value Award, Midsize Utility (2 row) Segment (for five consecutive years) as Subaru was named ALG’s best mainstream brand for the second year in a row.

Models

The 2017 Outback 2.5i is available in entry, Touring, Limited and Premier models and is powered by a 175-hp 2.5-litre 4-cylinder SUBARU BOXER engine, with a PZEV option available on the entry model. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard in the 2.5i and 2.5i Touring models with optional CVT. The Outback 3.6R is available in Touring, Limited and Premier models, and is powered by a 256-hp 3.6-litre 6-cylinder SUBARU BOXER engine.
